'The most exciting big band to come our of New Zealand' is the verdict of all who see the Rodger Fox Big Band. The unit was originally formed in 1974 by Wellington musician Rodger Fox as a training ground for local musicians.

The band has since made eleven albums which include two live albums from the band's appearance at the Montreux International Jazz Festival, one at the Vanguard Studios in New York City and others featuring both top overseas and local artists (including Midge Marsden, Bobby Shew, Bill Reichenbach and Mary Yandall).

They have supported top name artists like Bruce Johnstone Baritone Saxophone of the Woody Herman Band, Bobby Shew Trumpet with Buddy Rich Band, Bill Reichenbach Trombone, Quincey Jones, Michael Jackson and Ricky May.

The band has always shown a healthy disregard for musical barriers and happily tackles all kinds of material from any source – whether that source be rock, blues, latin and jazz.

Apart form their obvious technical skills, one of their attributes is their extraordinary enthusiasm which is transmitted vibrantly, expressively and with ease through its music.

The band is available as a compact five piece unit, moving up to big brassy sounds of a 14 piece big band
