Steven O’Meagher is mostly known for his involvement as the originating producer of the heart wrenching film, Out of the Blue. The film tells the tragic story of the Aramoana massacre. What is not so well known is that Steven accidently stumbled on a copy of Bill O’Brien’s "Aramoana: Twenty-Two Hours of Terror" in a second-hand book shop and that this read lead him to making the film.

The film addresses various issues of society such as the good side of people to help each other in crisis as well as the loss of innocence occurring in such an attack.

The film has screened at the Torronto Film Festival in September 2006 and the North American rights to it has been bought by The Weinstein Company. The film has been a huge success in New Zealand, overtaking Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures in the all-time top 10, and is set to be equally successful in other countries on its international release in 2007.

Steven has only recently moved into the film industry. He has a solid background in producing television programmes and documentaries, with his best known documentary, Million Dollar Tumour, taking out the 2006 Qantas Media Award as Best New Zealand Popular Documentary. Prior to starting Desert Road FILMS and producing his documentaries he worked for Communicado production company.

Before stepping into the world of television and film, Steven was a journalist writing for North and South.

Steven talks about the making of Out of the Blue as well as the much publicised reaction to it. Celebrity Speakers (NZ) Ltd is proud to represent him exclusively to share his amazing story.
