Steve Gurney
Steve Gurney has won the gruelling New Zealand Coast-to Coast race nine times. This unequalled achievement is even more remarkable when you consider this super-athlete nearly died, doing what he loves and what he does best, competing in multi-sport events.
Gurney has learned a lot from winning a record 9 Coast to Coast races and his career as a professional international adventure racer. He also learned a lot from his many losses, and his near death brush with Leptospirosis whilst racing in the jungles of Borneo!
Now-a-days he's an adventurer and a trainer/coach in mental excellence from the field of NLP.
Steve has successfully competed in numerous multi-sport races around the world. His life is an adventure. If there's not a mountain to traverse, a river to kayak, swamp to slither through, or bush to negotiate, then he's not altogether satisfied. While no longer a full-time athlete, he still competes in selected events...even the 2006 season of 'Dancing with the Stars'.
Crossing the Sahara Desert by Kite Buggy. Gurney and his team created a world record by being the first to cross the Sahara solely by wind power. Gurney had an horrific crash into rocks half way through the adventure. Despite 5 broken bones, a torn shoulder and concussion, he managed to finish the record setting adventure. Learn from Gurney about over-coming obstacles and the art of getting goals.
Coast to Coast the old way. Gurney teamed up with his mate Moffatt to re-enact a trip from 1889 where the Park Brothers took old Wooden boats from Coast to Coast over Harper pass. Gurney the Coast to Coast racing champion was very surprised at how tough those original Kiwi pioneering adventurers were. Learn from Gurney about how tough we really are now-a-days.
Gurney was so inspired by the 1889 Coast to Coast trip that once again they're re-enacting a pioneering trip from the 1890's. This time attempting to Climb Mt Cook with old gear (yes, HobNail boots, and hemp rope, no crampons or Gortex this time!)and then kayaking to Oamaru. It's a risky trip.
Steve speaks about the commitment and planning needed for success, and the perseverance required to come back from rock bottom. Book him now to hear his amazing stories.

Risk is the spice of life!
It's not necessarily what you’ve got at the end of the trip that counts. It's also the joy of the journey.
I believe the winner will be the athlete with the fiercest burning desire. Even an athlete who has done a little less training than the other competitors can compensate, thereby winning, by racing with greater passion and determination.
