Paul MacDonald

With five Olympic medals and six World Championship medals, six of them gold, Paul MacDonald is undoubtedly one of New Zealand's most successful international athletes.

He received his first medals at the 1987 World Canoeing Championships in West Germany where Paul, with team-mate Ian Ferguson, won Gold in the K2 1000m and Silver in the K2 500m. A Gold in the individual K1 500 made him the first New Zealander to ever win an individual World Gold in canoeing.

There was further victory at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, where Paul collected the full set of medals: Gold in the K2 500m and a Silver in the K2 1000m (with his partner Ian) and Bronze in the K1 500.

Paul has produced many television sports events and programmes including 'Clash of the Codes' (the ultimate challenge for any sports person) and more recently, 'Oceanman' and 'Uncle Tobys Super Series Life Saving Contests' at Piha Beach, West Auckland. He also coordinates the annual and highly successful Dragon Boat Festival.

Paul is a confident, articulate speaker whose dedication to his goals and determination to succeed are an inspiration. He is also a great host (or participant) at most outdoor and many indoor events – particularly those with a sporting or team theme.
