Mystery and The Mouth
John “Mystery” Morrison and Miles “The Mouth” Davis are New Zealand sport media’s answer to “The Odd Couple”.
An unlikely partnership, their informed, opinionated, in your face, humorous style has been creating waves both on television and radio. As well as covering the 2003 cricket world cup for TV3 the pair also host their own top-rating Sunday morning show on Radio Sport. They are also regular correspondents on Martin Devlin’s Sporting Breakfast on the same station.
Morrison is a former international cricketer with many years’ experience in radio and television. He has also been a coach and selector for Wellington and is currently New Zealand’s representative on the ICC International Cricket Referee’s Panel. Renowned for his dry wit, Morrison’s experiences from a lifetime in cricket as well as 5 years in the murky environment of local body politics as Wellington City Councillor, along with a highly publicised failed Mayoral campaign gives him plenty of tales with which to regale any audience.
Davis is the antithesis of Morrison. A garrulous cockney, Davis has been New Zealand’s sole media representative at the last 2 Soccer World Cups. He produced and hosted his own show, “The House of Football” on Sky Sport for four years until it was removed from air following a puppetry of the penis sketch utilising the silhouette of a rather large pepperoni sausage. As well as combining with Morrison for TV3’s cricket and their Radio Sport show, Davis has also co-hosted the Yellow Ribbon Fight for Life and provided the Hurricanes perspective for TV3’s Super 12 coverage. He also writes a sports column for the Sunday News.
The creative and ethnic tension that sparks between the pair is guaranteed to entertain and inform a wide range of audiences. Morrison and Davis take their speaking engagements seriously and are well known for their total commitment to the evening to the extent that they are often the last to leave.
