After a brief stint of teaching, Martin set up an importing and manufacturing company before becoming joint editor of Moneyline, an independent commentary on business, finance and investment.

He regularly writes for a number of other publications and is a prolific author. He has written many books on money matters, most recently: 'Money and Divorce – A New Zealand Guide to Separating your Finances', 'Eight Secrets of Investment Success' and 'Your Money Life-line – Plan & Enjoy Your Superannuation'.

His three previous books on family trusts, property investment in New Zealand and taxation were immediate best-sellers and have featured on the New Zealand best-seller list almost continuously since their publication.
