John Newland

John is perhaps best known as former Chief Executive of Farmlands Trading Company, a rural retail cooperative which is one of the top 100 companies in New Zealand. In his 18 years with the company, the annual sales increased from $62 Million to $350 Million.

Prior to joining Farmlands, John spent fifteen years with New Zealand Breweries in a variety of roles.

John is widely respected in the business community and holds a number of directorships, including Director for Marist Holdings Greenmeadows Ltd. (Mission Estate Wines), Port of Napier Limited, Stewart Financial Group and C-DAX Systems Ltd.

Previously John has been a Director for United Contracting Ltd. and New Zealand Wool testing Authority Ltd.

Hawkes Bay Helicopter Rescue Trust recently appointed John a Chairman of the enterprise. He is also Patron of the Theatre Hawke’s Bay Inc. as well as trustee of the Hastings Blossom Festival Trust.

Having graduated at Victoria University, John’s initial roles involved finance. He then moved into sales and marketing and has undertaken a number of postgraduate studies including “Marketing of Services” at Berkeley University , San Francisco and “Cooperative Executive Management Academy “Purdue University , Lafayette in Indiana.

He is passionate about people – and likes to ensure those he works have job satisfaction and perform to their maximum potential and productivity.

John enjoys helping others, and his presentations reflect this. They are tailored to a specific brief and focus on the audience. His vast experience through a range of disciplines means he can talk to a variety of industry sectors, focusing on the people side of business.
