John Adshead’s success as an outstanding team builder and motivator has been quite unique.

He found prominence as the coach of the New Zealand soccer team when the All Whites shocked the soccer world by qualifying for the 1982 World Cup finals held in Spain.

Since then his people organisational and developmental skills have been in demand in varying fields.

John received wide acclaim for his involvement in New Zealand’s first challenge for the America’s Cup. His role was to mold each individual department into one team and act as motivation and personnel manager to the sailing teams.

He developed the successful Radio I Sports Foundation and ran the New Zealand end of Bob Geldof’s international sports aid. John has also managed tours throughout Australia and New Zealand by the Soviet basketball and gymnastic teams.

John Adshead looks first at selection – what type of individual makes a team player.

His focus of building the team and performance is delivered in an educational and humourous manner.

A heart attack in April 1998 almost ended his life. By a stroke of fate he was given a second chance. His recuperation has given him the opportunity to reassess his philosophies on team building.

Accountability now holds a new meaning for John, “I have to be accountable for my own health, I have to be accountable for my own actions, I have to accept the responsibilities that this second chance has offered me – in all aspects of my life – so do you”.

John has always followed his own philosophy, using quality planning as the key to success. He believes improved technology will always be an asset, but only people will guarantee the winning formula.

John focuses on people understanding people and developing them into a team with combined knowledge and understanding, a team capable of attaining the desired result.
