James Barker

Professor James Barker is recognised for his research and articles in the areas of teamwork, development of sustainable knowledge, innovation and change initiatives. James emigrated from the USA in 2005 and is a Professor at Waikato University. He has a Doctorate in Organisational Theory from the University of Colorado. He has taught a number of courses that focus on the development of critical thinking, leadership and decision-making skills.

His book 'The Discipline of Teamwork' details how the discipline develops, matures, and creates social consequences for organisational participants. It provides insight into how we can make teamwork a positive experience for all involved.

James is highly regarded for his articles in a number of professional journals and received the award for "Outstanding Publication in Organizational Behavior" for his research on self-managing teams, published in Administrative Science Quarterly.

His work outside the academic sector includes research projects with the US Air Force Academy where he studied the processes of flight crews in problem solving and decision making. James speaks about his findings in relation to the corporate environment.
