Ian Taylor
Motivational speaker Ian Taylor and his team at Animation Research Ltd, changed the way the world saw the America’s Cup and turned it into a real spectator sport. The company developed the 3D graphic software that enabled audiences worldwide to follow this sporting event, to the delight of fans everywhere.
Ian is a lawyer by trade and made the switch to the media world after an exciting stint in music, directing and presenting. He founded the company Animation Research Ltd in 1990 and the company has been responsible for several award-winning multimedia productions both nationally and internationally.
Animation Research Ltd established themselves as Australasia’s leading computer animation company. They turned their skill set to revolutionising the sporting worlds of cricket, golf and yachting.
The 1999 coverage of the Louis Vuitton Challenger’s Series and America’s Cup was enhanced by their technology that delivered live, 3D, interactive viewing to over 150 countries, via television or internet.
Animation Research Ltd have also used their virtual spectator technology to cover the world’s top golf tournaments including The British Open, The Ryder Cup and the PGA Tours. Virtual Spectator has also been used for the World Rally Championships, Volvo Ocean Race and Wimbledon.
Ian is a keen supporter of Maori Tourism and has worked with one of New Zealand’s leading tourist attractions to take their operations to new heights. Whale Watch Kaikoura now offers a unique onboard virtual tour enabling passengers to get up close to the unique marine environment.
More recently, Ian received the prestigious title of North and South New Zealander of the Year 2010, which is a great honour and one he is very proud of.
