Ian Robertson

By the time injury ended Ian Robertson's rugby career at 25 he had won "Blues" at both Aberdeen University and Cambridge University and played for London Scottish and the Barbarians and won eight international caps for Scotland.

In 1972, he joined the BBC as a rugby commentator and has covered almost all major matches all over the world since then. He has worked on a Celebrity Road Show, which covered the length and breadth of Britain, and appeared regularly as compere or quizmaster with sporting celebrities like Denis Law, Emlyn Hughes, Geoff Boycott and Willie Carson.

In summer he masquerades as an expert on horse racing for the BBC and has had numerous shares in a succession of very slow horses lacking any sort of ambition.

In fact, over the past 20 years he has reported on most sports at one time or another, which provides a great fund of anecdotes for his after dinner speeches.

Also a prolific writer, Ian was Rugby Correspondent for the 'Sunday Times' and is author or co-author of over 30 books including several best sellers – with Gareth Edwards, Bill Beaumont and Andy Irvine. His book, 'Success in Rugby', draws on his time as a leading British rugby coach and provides practical advice for players, coaches and teachers. He also helped to host the official biography of the actor Richard Burton. To persuade Elizabeth Taylor to write the forward, he was forced to spend a whole week with her in Hollywood!

Although happy to accept any challenge, Ian specialises in sports dinners, golf days (a very competitive handicap of 16), and dinners and conferences for the business world.
