Gregory Fortuin started working for an international insurance company in Cape Town in the early seventies. As the first coloured in his division, he had to sit on the other side of a partition and was not allowed to use the same toilets as the whites. He later transferred to National Mutual in Australia and finally to New Zealand where he was Managing Director of AXA Corporate Superannuation Services.

Gregory was the first resident representative of the new South Africa in New Zealand, when appointed Honorary Consul by Nelson Mandela in 1998. He was New Zealand's Race Relations Conciliator in 2001 and 2002.

Currently Gregory serves on the boards of New Zealand Post, Kiwibank, Catalyst Risk Management and ACC and is a trustee of the Crown Forest Rental Trust and the NZ Post and ACC superannuation schemes.

Gregory is also heavily involved in community issues across New Zealand and is the founding chair of the Youth Suicide Awareness Trust, as well as serving as a director on the boards of Youth for Christ and Prison Fellowship.

Gregory's message is based on the passionate desire to make a difference.

Testimonials

  • "... In personalising his presentation, Mr Fortuin also displayed a distinct ability to tailor his lecture to the interests of any given audience. Thus, for example, he incorporated in his presentation a number of current issues relevant to the staff course that were mentioned only informally in conversation prior to the start of his lecture. The net result of this approach was that the feedback from a number of course members has emphasised how Mr Fortuin's presentation was inspirational in content and delivery...."—Royal New Zealand Air Force
