Donal Curtin
Donal Curtin was the Bank of New Zealand’s chief economist from 1990 – 1994. Before that, from 1985, he was the bank’s chief international economist.
He went on to head the national private banking unit, which provided investment advisory services to the bank’s wealthiest customers. In 1999 he went out on his own with his new company which is principally aimed at advising overseas institutional investors on New Zealand investment conditions.
In February 2001, Donal was appointed to the Commerce Commission. In March 2002, parliaments finance and expenditure select committee appointed Donal as its first independent adviser on monetary policies.
Donal is an experienced and effective speaker and has given many presentations up and down New Zealand, ranging from large industry federations to midsize organisations, to small inhouse corporate groups.
His strength is translating the big economic issues – the low inflation era, New Zealand’s international competitiveness, the advent of the Internet, the Asian crises – into practical implications for any audience.
