Pam Corkery
There have been many published descriptions of journalist and broadcaster Pam Corkery.
The most repeated labels are fiery, feisty, funny and fearless. Her family worries that she is often foolishly so.
The controversial former talkback host has in recent years turned to making television documentaries. Pam spent 18 months researching and presenting the acclaimed two-part series Gangs providing a rare insight into the Auckland ‘underworld’. The documentaries have been picked up for global screening.
Her current project in this arena is the culmination of a year-long investigation into Asian Crime in New Zealand, to be broadcast mid-November ‘09.
Pam has worked in all journalistic mediums – both here and in Australia – driven by the desire to avoid manual labour. Besides radio hosting, her career includes newspaper reporting, feature writing, peerless dispensing of advice as a magazine agony aunt, influential political commentating and television reviewing. She also fronted her own late night television news-variety show The Last Word.
Pam’s Intrepid Journey to Colombia, during which she tested a bullet-proof jacket, ventured into the Amazon to swim with pirhana and anaconda, and climbed a volcanic peak, is considered the most ‘intrepid’ of the series to date.
Pam also served one term as a Member of Parliament after contesting the Auckland mayoralty. Her political flirtation spawned a book Pam’s Political Confessions that told of a nasty after-taste. She is working on a second book and co-writing a feature film.
The most prevalent description of Pam’s approach to journalism and broadcasting is ‘telling it like it is.’
Pam’s varied career and colourful life makes her a supremely entertaining and well-informed keynote speaker.
