Murray Thom
Motivational speaker Murray Thom left school at 15 with no qualifications. By the age of 23 he was Managing Director of CBS Records New Zealand, the youngest Managing Director of that group in the world.
In 1987 he won the government tender to introduce personalised number plates into New Zealand and in 1997 sold that company to return to his real passion – the music business, and two of his most recent productions, “Together” and “Miracle”, have both featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. Murray was named one of New Zealand’s Top 10 Entrepreneurs of the decade by NZ Business magazine. He is also the creator behind the unique "The Great New Zealand Songbook". Murray often says that "Opportunities don't shout, they whisper”, The Great New Zealand Songbook being a classic example of this statement. He looks forward to sharing his experiences from the Songbook with you. Murray also created "The Great Australian Songbook", released in November 2011, made up of two CDs of the best Australian music and a 90-page hardcover journal featuring handwritten lyrics, photos and memorabilia from the artists and orginal Rolf Harris artwork.
Murray was named as one of New Zealand’s Top 10 Entrepreneurs of the Decade by NZ Business magazine.
Murray believes in doing what you love and is driven to “Live each day in order to receive a standing ovation”. He is inspired by the leading musicians he has worked with (Celine Dion and the late Rob Guest) who strive for excellence and do not settle for second best when performing.
Murray is a high energy and dynamic motivational speaker – with a great message. He is the great opening or closing to a conference to put everyone on a high – or after lunch to wake everyone up!
His other passion is sailing and in 2005 he won the World Laser Masters championship in Brazil.
