The Minstrel
The Minstrel (aka Mark deLacy) has developed a reputation as one-man band/comedian and a great corporate entertainer.
A multi-talented performer, the Minstrel is a singer/songwriter who can create and act out characters, play background dinner music, perform comic floor shows, lead Irish sing-a-longs, or simply play great dance music.
He is best known for his satirical songwriting – writing and performing material specific to an event or occasion. His humorous songs about our national game, the All Blacks, our America's Cup win, the Silver Ferns and topical issues such as French nuclear protests and too few boys in blue have been featured on television and radio.
He achieved huge public approval for his song “ Advance Australia Unfair”, which was released just before a Bledisloe Cup rugby test. The song was the first of 16 singles that were released progressively until The Minstrel’s CD “Blaack” featuring “An Anthem for New Zealand” was released.
The success and popularity of that first single resulted in The Minstrel being featured in a weekly spot on Murray Deaker’s nationally broadcast programme Scoreboard.
The Minstrel performs an after dinner show featuring "Kiwi Tonguer", where he teaches people to speak Kiwi, which is a hit with corporates. He uses slides from his travels as a Minstrel around New Zealand, stories, music and comedy about what happens at kids shows, and topical material from his Deaker show to deliver a fascinating and hilarious truly Kiwi hour – which involves audience participation as well.
The Minstrel is professional and innovative, with an ability to recognise, capture and enhance ideas.
The Minstrel is also a well-known lawn bowler and author of a book on the subject.
