Carl Doy
Carl Doy has the fancy fingers behind the fabulous Piano by Candlelight series. Joining forces with Murray Thom to record the album, a further eight albums have been recorded and the second album became the highest selling locally recorded album in New Zealand.
After working on cruise ships for a number of years Carl decided to not only produce his own albums and start doing it for others. Carl found time to arrange and produce many CDs for some of Australasia's most famous performers, perhaps the most notable of these being Derek Metzger, Rob Guest, Tina Cross and Sir Howard Morrison. He was also arranger and musical director of Kiri Te Kanawa's "Maori Songs", another platinum album. Dame Kiri sang his arrangement of "E Te Tarakihi" live from Gisborne in the first live broadcast of the New Millennium, to a television audience of over a hundred million people.
Other successful production efforts were the Espresso Guitar series which became platinum sellers. After that came the 'Together' series which Oprah Winfrey featured on "Oprah's Favourite Things" in 2002. She told her TV audience that "Together" was "her favorite of all the favorites". After appearing on the Oprah show the album sold $100,000 worth in less than an hour!
Carl's piano playing skills are second to none and can be the main event with a grand piano or can do soft background music. No matter what he does, he will take you on a musical journey that has to be heard to be believed.
