In 1989 Denise and her partner Francis pooled their life savings ($400) to start their first store on Auckland’s High Street. They took a lease on a tiny 100 square foot space and World was created.

World now has an established reputation within the NZ fashion industry for innovation, irreverence and individualism.

They employ 25 staff, have stores in Auckland, Wellington and Sydney, have won many fashion awards and shown in Paris, Hong Kong, Australia and London. Their clothes are exported to Italy, Japan, Taiwan, USA, UK and France and have been purchased and displayed by the Auckland Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney and Victoria Museum in Melbourne.

Denise works with the "Books in Homes" project for lower socio-economic schools and speaks twice yearly to various schools on the importance of reading.

She has spoken to many business audiences including the 1999 APEC conference, the Peace Awards along with John Pilger and sat on the panel of Helen Clark’s 2000 Business Forum.
