Caitlin Smith is one of Auckland's best known jazz vocalists, regularly seen out working at venues like Iguacu and Opus.

Partially sighted since birth, she has only ten percent sight in one eye and five percent in the other. Seeing through her eyes is said to be like watching an over-exposed, and out of focus black-and-white movie.

In 1997 she joined up with guitarists Steve Gerrish and Graeme Webb to form The Fondue Set. In addition to regular gigs around Auckland, the group produced two CDs before breaking up.

She now performs as The Caitlin Smith Trio or Quartet and participates in other events with a variety of artists.

Caitlin is also a vocal coach working with private students including Courtney Love for the Big Day Out, Nesian Mystik, The D4, The Datsuns, Ardijah, Anika Moa, Eye TV, Tadpole, the now defunct True Bliss as well as teaching at institutions Tai Poutini (MAINZ – the Music and Audiology Institute of NZ) the Performing Arts School and SCAPA (Auckland University School of Contemporary and Performing Arts).

Testimonials

  • Caitlin provided great background music but it was also entertaining in it's own right.—Sarah Vining, Farmers Mutual Group
